What option does a dog have in having to have its tail removed or ears cosmetically altered? Is it likely that a dog would wish cosmetic docking/cropping to be performed on it? It is not a human right to maim or mutilate an animal for self gratification.
So many countries have now banned these practices that those who have not seem very much behind the times. At least the Canadian Veterinary profession are beginning to march with the times whereas legislation can be a drawn out process.
This issue always causes an outrage amongst (show) breeders. In the countries where bans are in place and have been for at least 2 years people now look upon docked tails as very abnormal. As showing with docked tails is also being prohibited at many world shows it consequently makes it more difficult for breeders who believe they have quality docked dogs to enter.
