We had him neutered at a young age because, at the time, what I was reading was stuff like this which made it sound like there were no negatives to early neutering. Unfortunately I have now read other things that make me realize that's not entirely true. I think some of the sites I read earlier were influenced heavily by the desire to control pet populations.

Early neutering removes sex hormones, this delays maturation of osteoclasts resulting in the delayed closing of the growth plates of the long leg bones creating leggy taller than average dogs. I would have waited if I had know this and some of the research having to do with higher incidence of orthopedic disease such as CCL rupture and hip dysplasia, osteosarcoma, urinary incontinence, etc.

We got him the large but honestly they don't fit that well. I think what we'll need to do is add another Velcro around the neck area to pull it up more. It wants to drag down. Also the large has a lot of room in the body area - undoubtedly for dogs with a lot of fur. But it does work on him and I think we will be using it on colder days where he's laying around or at night. For $9.99 (Bed Bath & Beyond) it's okay, but I wouldn't pay much more.

As far as neutering early , the height will not be a great difference , studies I have read show only a half to 1 inch difference .

But then again genetics play a much bigger role in what the height/size of a dog will be . how would researchers know how tall a dog would have been if not neutered ?

Buddy is a cutie , he has such unique makings on his chest .

. I know what you mean about them growning so fast Babe has been on a growing spurt and never seems full when she is I should take some new pics of her soon also . i was thinking the snuggie would be a good idea for like you said night time and maybe in the day time when i let her out for a quick pee .Hope I can find one for that price around here .
