It's always trial and error for me, I can hardly use other peoples tutorials. This was a trial and error aswell, didn't know what I was doing. But glad I remembered. It only took me about 5mins tops. I have PSE8, so it may be a bit different but not by much. I'll try and do a step by step thing, but I kinda suck at it. Hope it turns out okay and that you can understand my instructions lol. If you want to try it that is.
You may want to duplicate the picture first, so you're not using the original incase you save over it by accident. I don't although I should.
Press CTRL+J to duplicate the layer.
Make sure the layer is selected, not the background image. Find the Cookie Cutter tool on your right side tool bar (I think thats where it should be) and select it. Once selected somewhere near the top of the screen it should say Shape with a white box and most likely a heart will be selected. Click on the arrow next to it. There should be two small arrows on the box that opens up, click them. I'm not sure which category thing it will be in because I have mine on All Elements and Shapes because its easier so you might want to do that.
I selected the Crop 12 cutter but you can use any one you like.
Just click on your picture and drag the shape out, you can move it around to fit how you like. When you're done press enter. Nothing will look like it has happened but if you look at the layer it will be cropped.
Because I don't know where the Drop Shadows is on PSE7 this may be harder, I hope they are in the same place as in PSE8.
On the right side of the screen there is an Effects Box and just under the word effect there should be 4 shape things, when the mouse hovers over them they should say Filters, Layer Styles, Photo Effects, All. Choose Layer Styles, click the drop down box and choose Drop Shadows, then choose High for your Drop Shadow. The shadow should appear like my my images above.
Click on the background image. I'm not sure if PSE7 has convert to black and white but theres more than one way.
To convert to black and white in PSE8 you can either press CTRL+ALT+B or go to Enhance and click Convert to Black and White.
Otherwise you can go to Enhance, Adjust Colour, Remove Colour. It does the same thing.
Whether you want text is up to you. But just select the text tool, click on the image (it doesn't matter what layer it is on as it creates its own layer anyway) and type what you want. You can change the colour, font, size and all that up the top of the screen. When you've typed what you like then just click anywhere on the screen.
When you're done, select Layer on the top of the screen and then select Flattern Image. After save it (if you didn't duplicate the picture first, make sure you press save as not save) and you're done
