This park is perfect for him--except for the giant mud hole! It's on the side of an extinct volcano right in the city. They've fenced it off so they can't (easily) escape, and have 2 main trails that loop around (mostly for the 2 legged critters) so they can run and sniff to their hearts content. This open muddy area is about 1/2 way in, and of course that's where they want to play! It's good for him 'cause it's a fairly steep slope--he gets that much more tired running UP hill! (and there's a spigot with a hose at the entrance so you can get the majority of the muck off before you get in the car. )

They built a new dog park only minutes away from me, but they didn't put in any water spigot anywhere nearby! So you would have to bring your own drinking water. Now considering they just built it and opened it last summer, I would think being so new and up to date, they would have running water!!!

You sure would! Portland is really great about having 'dog places'--maybe better than I even realized. I went to our City website: Portland Parks & Recreation :: Park Search Results and it shows you all the off leash areas in the greater Portland area.
So--if you're vacationing in Oregon, and will be in Portland with your pooch-you'll have lots of places to take him/her to play! We've only been to 2 or 3 of them so far, but plan to check more out--some are fenced, and some not, but I'm pretty sure they have water!
