Nope. Tons of breeders who show don't health test. Some well known AKC judges who breed dogs don't health test.

My favorite puppy buying website...

http://widgetbostons.com/PBG.htm

It is a site by a Boston Breeder, but many of the points are valid for any breed.

Not all show breeders test . There are may reasons why . Some say their lines do not have the problems so they do not need to test . And there are many others given . But unless they test how do they really know if there is an issue .

If they say they do test then you must ask to see the hard copies of the results , any reputable breeder will be more then happy to show them to you .

At a minimum they should be doing -the first 4 tests listed

Echo / doppler . for SAS/AS a heart issue .

Holtering . For arvc a heart condition .

Thyroid . to check that the levels are normal .

There is a fairly new test for DM ( degenerative myopathy). To see if the dog is clear , carrier or at risk .

Very new ARVC dna test . This one is up in the air as it may not be the only gene responsible for ARVC but it is the best we have right now .

I also test eyes ( CERF) for any problems , but boxers are not prone to genetic eye conditions .

X-Rays for hips . Though since this is not a big issue in boxers , many are not screening for it anymore . So you may not have tests for hips / elbows .

AS for the second breeder . They too do not list any health testing info . But again many breeders do not put that info on their sites . And some may not be that experienced with creating their own sites .

The best bet is to contact them with all of your questions . And see how you feel about their responses .

Here is some proof that Windfall does health test http://www.offa.org/results.html?all=winfall but really, you need to call and discuss all this directly. My dear Duey came from a breeder that health tested and showed her dogs. Unfortunately, she still was NOT a good breeder and now he's gone. I've learned a LOT about breeders in the last couple years and it's very important to do all the homework!

Here is a GREAT link on how Questions to Ask a Breeder http://www.newcastleboxers.com/breederquestions.shtml

I agree some may not be computer savvy to frequently update results but you would think they would add a statement like : Our Boxers are health tested, please contact us for more info. Or something similar that would inform interested parties but not need to be updated. ??

I agree with the the websites thing -- was actually going to make a comment about it. from my online research, most breeders don't utilize the internet and those who do, do it a poor job of it.

Well it would make it alot easier for you when searching for a breeder wouldn't it. They don't even need to go into great detail just state that they do so you then know who looks best and make further enquiries about what types of testing and/or show results rather than phone heaps and heaps trying to weed through the BYB's and Puppy Mills and waste a ton of time. i know it's worth it in the end but most people are so short of time it sure would be a help.

The fact that no where on that site the advertise their dogs as healthy worries me. I understand boxers, or any breed, need to look a certain way, but to harp on temprement and not health irks me a bit. Don't even say they passes XYZ tests but at least mention something about the fact that boxers have a way higher than average risk for cancer and heart problems and they breed to avoid these things as much as is humanly possible.

Learning all I have about breeders makes me want to stick with rescues. I love puppies and I wish no dogs needed to be rescued, but it seems like there are so few good breeders out there with so few puppies going to companion homes.

Sorry to be such a downer, I'm glad you are trying to find a responsible breeder.
