We paid $450 to a very reputable breeder for Scout. It was a great deal! The litter was large (12 pups!) and the breeder was more concerned with making sure they all got homes than making a ton of money on them so she discounted them considerably.

The prices range anywhere from $300 to $4000. If you want breeding rights, then of course the puppy will cost you more since you are going to make that money back by breeding your bitch. I would not be concerned with the price. Sometimes, a $500 puppy is in better health and form than a $1,000 puppy since anyone can make up prices and charge as much as they want. If you find the right breeder with experience, then even if they ask a higher price, it is worth it because they will be there in the future to help you and give you guidance when problems arise. You will save a lot more money in the long run than you would if you paid that $300 to an irresponsible breeder who will not even answer your calls when your puppy gets sick.

We had to pay $350 for adoption fees for each dog. Plus an extra $200 deposit to make sure we got Rex neutered, which would have been given back to us once we showed the proof, which we showed them, but we let them keep the $$ as a donation to the rescue. They have so many fostered dogs that need so much medical attention, which is what the adoption fees go towards. It isn't much, but every little bit helps.

LOL - yeah, the price of the dog is just the beginning. Buddy has been over budget every month we've had him. In fact, I think we could spend no money on him for the next year, and he'd STILL be over budget. But who could say no to this face?

We paid a mere $150 for Jake which I thought was a steal, but then he's not registered with the AKC. Still, he's a good looking pup and a real sweetie.
