We paid $300 for Buddy but have paid ~$1000 to the behaviorist we're working with. He's a little over 7 months old. We've talked about people who want $1500 for pups and decided that it may well be worth it depending on what you're getting. I'm certain (from what I've followed here in your search of breeders) that this pup would be more carefully screened than Buddy - who wasn't screened at all. And if they have done some training with the dog you wouldn't have to pay for what we are paying for. Plus all the time you don't have to put into training them when you get them a little older and trained. How old is the pup you're looking at? Has it had any training?

It is worth it to spend that much on a good breeder, where you can look at health and longevity in the lines. Of course it isn't a gurarentee but your chances are sure increased of getting a healthier dog.
I paid $500 for DAisy from a byb and MANY thousands on her healthy issues. I paid $450 for Duey (a special deal because he was almost 7 months and still with the breeder) and he's gone already. I paid A LOT more for Poppy and I have peace of mind. Worth every penny to me!
$1500 is not unreasonable depending on the lines and quality of the dog. On the other hand many byb are also aking lots of money and getting it so it's up to you to do your hopework on the breeder.

So you are going to get one . The price they have told you sounds pretty standard for your side of the world for a pup from good breeding and thorough health testing.
I must know boy or girl, prefered colour, and any names yet?

Oh, we paid $700 but lets just say I would never go back there again, I should have done more research before getting her but we had recently lost our Cav and the kids were heartbroken and I guess I listened to my emotions more than my brain . Next one I think we'd be looking somewhere around $1500 - $2000 - and I have already started researching breeders, DH calls it stalking breeders .

I have to say my first dog on my own was from a BYB andf i Paid $450.

My first boxer was $600. But I knew the stud owner and she took him as her stud fee and I paid her the $ she was charging for the stud fee .

My second was on a co-ownership and I paid $500 with a pick puppy back. So between the cash and the puppy back it was $1300. And that was 8 years ago .

Edy -well she was free . o.K. not really . I can't put a cost to all the work involved with the litter . but the puppies sold from her litter were $800-$1000.

The price you quoted seems in line with conf/show breeders who health test .

I paid $700 for Babe and that was half price because she was getting older at the pet store .I honestly can't see me paying more for a family pet then that , considering I never paid anything for the other dogs we had .If I was into showing and breeding that would be different probably .
But knowing she has a good loving home and not sitting around in a kennel or cage all day is priceless to me .
