Ear cropping question
To remove this ad please Register
This is a quick question to a breeder, or anyone with experience in the matter really. I'm getting Shenzi's ears cropped this Friday, she's going to be 12 weeks old. I definitely understand that it's going to be a lot of work!
I was hoping to get some tips on how to tape and stand her ears up successfully; I've never done a taping myself before! The vet that my breeder reccommended is who I'm going with, and he's over an hour away, so obviously I won't be driving there every week for a retaping as I'm too busy with school.
Anyways, any words of advice would be helpful!

Actually YOU TUBE has several great videos of ear taping. Just search either Boxer, or Doberman, and you will get some very helpful hints...

Question is, why do you want to crop her ears?

i would try to find someone closer to do the taping. if you dont do it perfectly they can end up messed up, i hate it when their ears are cropped and the tips curl way back, it looks alot better when its done right.

The reason I'm cropping her ears is because I like how they look. Plain and simple, it's personal preference.
Thanks, I'll definitely try youtube!
Thing is, I'm not sure there is a vet too close to me that does cropping. They don't teach it at vet school anymore so not many veterinarians are familiar with the procedures involved. I guess I'll have to look around, and I'm definitely asking for an indepth tutorial from the vet!

good luck to you. we were very close to getting Bo's ears done.in fact the only reason we didnt was because, i know my two year old would be tugging on them and that would just not be good.. wait how old is your little one? alot of vets wont do it over a certain age, i think mine said not over 15 weeks, and that was pushing it.

She's in between 12 and 13 weeks now, and it's the time the vet wanted to wait until. We had a consultation with him a couple weeks ago to talk about the procedure and etc, and he set the appointment for this week.
I'm pretty excited

Things are going great for Shenzi She came home Sunday with a ridiculous bonnet on her head. It's off now, and I'm surprised, I though her ears would be a lot floppier, but they're already standing on their own except for the very tips. The girl's got some good cartiledge!
It's a real challange keeping her from playing with Victor and Scooby. I don't like keeping the cone on her because she has a sore on her neck from where it was rubbing on her skin.
Anyways, I've been rubbing antibiotic ointment on her ears a few times a day when she lets me. They're really scabby, but look much better than they did a few days ago. Suture removal and taping on Wednesday
I'll have to post some pictures, I swear she looks like a gremlin now; LOL!

wow thats great, im glad its going so well. i bet she will look like a gremlin until she is fully grown, then she will be beautiful , i love adults with cropped ears. there is a different kind of collar like that. it is blow up and would probably bother her less, if you need it that is.
