The more I learn about it, the more I wonder what can't you use it for? Oil of Oregano (not to be confused with the kitchen spice Oregano) is known to be a potent antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic agent. At relatively low doses was found to be efficacious against Staphylococcus bacteria and was comparable in its germ-killing properties to antibiotic drugs such as streptomycin, pencillin and vancomycin. [Science Daily 10/11/2001]. Vancomycin is considered to be one of the most potent antibiotic available and is withheld from use as a drug of last resort. It's active ingredient, carvacrol, kills spores, such as Bacillus cereus and Bacillus anthracis (anthrax). [Archives Microbiology, Volume 174, October 2000; Quarterly Review Biology, Volume 73, March 1998]. And if that isn't impressive enough, drug resistance does not develop against naturally-occurring antibiotics such as garlic and oil of oregano.

It is considered an excellent product for sinus and respiratory problems and can reduce pain and inflammation and effectively fight off infections of all sorts. Here's some uses and doses. But it's just the beginning.

You've probably heard more lately because it is such an excellent anti-viral and people are afraid of the flu. I'm not afraid - I'm prepared. Oil of oregano's in my cabinet if I need it, but a much better way to prevent illness and support your immune system is with adequate levels of vitamin D. Most folks are very deficient in it - at least north of Atlanta, GA.

Dr Mercola recommends 30 IU/pound/day (4500 IU for a 150lb person) but Dr. Cannell (world expert in vitamin D) recommends higher than that. Also, adequate vitamin D3 has been shown to cut the risk of cancers (breast, colon, prostate) by 75%!

But some folks would rather get squalene (the adjuvant connected to Gulf War Syndrome) injected into their system this flu season. To each his own.

That is so interesting I have never even heard of oil of oregano before! My goodness, I have learnt so many useful things from everyone here, so great we can all share things like this.

Is it ok to give to the kids for colds?? and how much?? i used it for myself the other day, but i only put 2 drops in 30ml of water....how much do you use Sally? The brand i use is 'wild oregano C93 by New Roots Herbal'...is this one ok? there is such a huge price difference from one brand to another...the clerk at the store told me they're pretty much the same quality.

There are different concentrations so you really just need to look at what you bottle says. I found this with some info on giving it to kids, but the dose may be different for your brand. When it doubt, I'd email the manufacturer.

I think you can even use this in your shampoo for lice preventative like people do with tea tree. I know some people have reactions to tea tree so this use this! I can see why it probably works cause it smells soooo strong.
