I think you should all band together and walk out at the same time so this woman must actually be a mother to those children, she may then appreciate the help she gets. Geeze, I'd be happy just to have a cleaner come in once a week or even fortnight to just do the bathrooms, windows and slobber walls lol. I don't even hire a sitter for my kids so DH and I can go out, if family or a close friend can't watch them ...we don't go!

Dave and I are the same way...i don't even remember the last time we went out on a 'date' LOL
Andrea, hang in there! hopefully this is a wakeup call for this excuse of a mother. For the nanny to also want to leave, it must be pretty bad....i cannot comprehend how someone can treat another human that way. I'm truly sorry you are having to go through this....i will pray for this woman to have a wake up call!!

So listen to this... the family was out of town since the 26th. I worked yesterday anyways (ran some errands, did returns and laundry). My normal hours are 8-4. Yesterday she asks me if I can work the afternoon instead tomorrow. I tell her no because I have an exercise class from 545-645. She tells me she needs me to either change my class or come back to work after my class. I want to just cry. Who does she think she is, giving me 24 hour notice and expecting me to be able to just drop what I'm doing. I said something back to her like "well, if I had known about this last week I could have adjusted my schedule." And she goes on this long rant and how it isn't her job to plan ahead and her life is so busy. It will take every ounce of strength I have not to punch her in the face when I see her today.

Maybe you need to remind her that it is HER life and her choice to live that way not yours so she can't expect you to "follow suit", (which is a load of BS to me - I have three kids and a husband that is away for half the year and I manage with no help to run my errands, clean the house, take the kids places etc, etc- she is just a lazy b@#!$) if your agreement states you work certain hours then she can't expect you to drop everything without reasonable notice and you should have the right to say no if you have prior commitments (well thats how it works over here)

Also point out that you work to live NOT live to work, you have a life outside of her mad house (as you should) and what she is asking is quikte frankly not acceptable, she strikes me as the kind of woman that will continue to do this as long as she is allowed to but would probably be quite shocked for someone to stand up to her. Andrea you really need to get out of there!
Sending you lots of
