Why does Christmas turn people crazy? I was doing the groceries today and while standing at the checkout I felt something hit me in the back hard, so I turn to look at what the heck it was and this lady says a really lame "sorry" as I am doing so. So after I had looked behind me and realise I had been slammed with a trolley (hey happens to us all some of them are terrible to manoeuvre) she snaps "Well I said sorry, what do you want me to do it was an accident" really loud (this lady had also been going off at her husband and barking orders at him - poor guy) and I turned back to her and said "I didn't say anything to you" and went back to my own business because to me it really was no big deal but she then replied really loudly with "you looked at me!" (geeze if you get hit in the back you automatically turn to see what the heck just happened) I then looked at her and said in a very calm and even tone "you really are a miserable old cow" she shut up and looked shocked and embarrased - I don't think she was used to getting what she dished out, the checkout operators both gave me a huge grin. Oh and then on the way back to the car someone started backing out without checking their mirrors and nearly hit my trolley malls and shopping centres just seem to turn into nut houses at Christmas. Anyone else had any Christmas crazies moments yet?

ROLF! "you really are a miserable old cow" I'm going to remember that one! I'm heading out to the grocery store this morning - I don't know whether or not to hope I get to use it!

I am going to have to restrain myself from saying that when I go out shortly if someone get up in my face, LOL. I have to go to buy Rex's turkey. They always seem to be out of it. They only have 1 package when I go. I even asked the kid that puts the stuff out, he said they sell out quickly. I asked him why don't they stock more of it? No response, LOL. Doesn't that make sense. I could see if I was there at 10:00 at night, then if the shelves are empty, I could understand, but I am there by noon!

I also have to go fight the traffic on the highway near the malls to go to the ski store to get DH a Christmas present there. Only a few more weeks for the stores to get back to normal.

I wouldn't be so brave as to have said anything Gizelle. The attitude over here is very different - you have no idea whether someone is carrying a knife or what. I just don't get involved when things like this happen and I would probably have said 'sorry' to her or something pacifying, even though it was her fault! A lot of people in London are quite volatile, I think we all suffer from too much stress just from living in a place that's so busy, noisy and 'on the go' all the time, Christmas stress just adds to it all and makes it even worse.

And talking of crazy people, Graham was in the supermarket yesterday, there were 2 people in front of him at the till, the person 2 away was a lad about 20, he was standing there and his mother was going back and forth to the shelves and picking up things and putting them on the belt, the guy [about 30] in front of Graham said to him - 'that's not fair you should finish your shopping then line up' - the 20 year old said - 'what you gonna do about it?' the other guy said, 'nothing I'm just saying it's not very fair that's all,' a few more words/grunts were exchanged and then a fight broke out between them. The security guard and the mother had to pull them apart, the 20 year old started shouting 'outside, come one take it outside,' so the 30 year old called the police. What a totally mad crazy overreaction to such a small incident!

Wow, Stephanie, that's quite a story. I went to the grocery place today and it was really crowded, but people said "excuse me" when they stepped in front of you or waited back so you could pass. Holland must be even more old fashioned than I realized. There are fights but those are mostly between gangs or people who've been drinking at the bars. So far, the grocery store's been pretty safe.

Wow Stephaine I can't believe it! What they did was very rude but to start a fight over it...
I have a funny grocery store story from yesterday too. The first checkout I lined up at had an elderly lady whom looked like she had loaded all her stuff on (she was blocking her trolley so couldn't see properly) and the young guy behind her started to load his stuff when he realised her trolley was still half full, so he offers to unload it for her, she then started telling him which items he had to put up one by one which made me laugh and she then says to him " I have a bus to catch so you'd better hurry up" lol, he was going way faster than she would have been able to and if she had of just let him do it without insisting on the order he placed the items up it would have gone even faster he he he, that was when I decided to changed lines lol.

How lovely – people wait for you to pass and say ‘excuse me’ - the manners and politeness that you describe does exist in England but you don’t find them very often in the cities. People who live in towns and villages are far more polite and relaxed as there isn’t the stress or the economic/class/culture divide/tension that is very marked in London and all the major cities in this country.
