Christmassy Childhood Memories

A couple of Christmas memories that really stick in my mind
Cuddling my filled Christmas stocking in bed because I didn't want it to get cold! [those were in the days when we didn’t have central heating and the only warm room in the house was the sitting room which had a glorious coal fire - the bedrooms were absolutely freezing]. Anyway, the stocking was full of little chocolate pressies that all melted and stuck together – boy was I disappointed when I opened it in the morning – such a mess!
I also remember quite clearly that every year I used to say I was going to wait up to see Santa fill my stocking, so one year, I waited and waited, I was lying in bed and the key turned in the door and I was soooooo excited thinking Santa was coming in and it was my dad. I said to him “is Santa here yet” he said - "no, he won't come if you’re still awake you know." So I had to go to sleep because I was so scared he won't come and I wouldn't get anything....!

One that sticks in my head was when I got my first bike. I woke up sooo excited and I got dressed really fast to go outside to ride it. I tried so very, very hard but just kept on stacking it (crashing, falling lol) I went to bed that night very sore and disappointed that I had this great bike and couldn't ride it. I woke up on Boxing day and being the stubborn thing that I am went out to try again and "got it" first try!
Oh another one was when I asked for a pair of roller skates and Santa brought me the white and pink pair I had been eyeing off but when I put them on I realised I had two left skates! I couldn't use them and had to wait a few days until the shops reopened to change them.

Oh Gizelle, you must have been soooo disappointed to find 2 left skates, how annoying - I tried ice skating and roller skating but gave up after spending most of the time on my backside. It took me ages to learn to ride a bike [weeks infact - I wasn't that bothered tbh] and I fell off loads of times before I finally 'got it'.

such good stories.... I can't really remember much about when I was a kid, LOL... have no clue why. We really didn't do much that was exciting. My mom was agoraphobic (sp?) and never left the house when I came along. My brothers and sister went many places. I saw photos, LOL. but not me. So I had a dull childhood. We had cats back then and they are what I remember most, lots of kittens and only one dog, Rusty. He was my dog growing up. I do remember getting the game twister one year, and that was exciting for me, a spinning wheel also that actual yarn spun something. And a Chatty Cathy doll that you pulled a string and she talked.
And that silver Christmas tree with a color wheel that would change 4 colors, LOL.
my sister watching me.... like the glasses!!!

Those are nice pics, Doreen. You don't see spinning wheels anymore! You look delighted in the pic with your dog.

You were quite the cutie. I have photos of my Aunt (somewhere ...) wearing similar glasses to your sister they always make me smile when I see them lol. I haven't seen a silver tinsel christmas tree in AGES....I forgot about them until I saw that last photo.
