I'm not not too worried that it's a sign of 2012, adammark. From what I've heard, as tragic as it is, it is not an unexpected place for an earthquake.

Many people don't believe 2012 means the destruction of the earth either, btw. Many see it as a time of change, not destruction. If you're interested in such discussions, I would suggest you check out Coast to Coast AM which is a late night talk show the frequently covers this topic. Here's a link to one of the shows from November. If you can't listen to it live, you can be a podcast subscriber for around $6-7/month. (I'm a big C2C fan, can you tell? )

As far as what to do to prepare for destruction, assuming you survive it? Buy gold!

buy gold lol. I suppose that's fairly sound advice though

Anyone else notice all the "sell your gold" commercials lately?

I wasn't joking when I said buy gold. I think it deserves a portion of anyone's portfolio for a variety of reasons. Gold's been the best part of our portfolio, although we got it more as a hedge against the possibility of a failed currency. Canada's got a strong currency so I can see where for them it might not be as important, but I could see a case for it there too. Gold might go down, but I'm betting it will still go up more over the next year or two since the US has printed so much money and our debt is so incredibly high. I wish we'd bought more when we did, a few years ago - and everyone was saying then that it was too high and would come down. Instead it's about doubled in value.

However, as the car ads say, "your mileage may vary".

erm............nothing! that's my answer. I try and fill my life with joy and happiness. I don't worry about the future and I don't brood on the past, I muddle through each day and thank God for it. Simple philosophy I know, but my life isn't very complicated so I'm able to live each day as if it were my last anyway.
