Pancakes!

It's pancake day here in the UK - is it where you are? Whether it is or not - does anyone make their own pancakes? What's your favourite topping?
I don't make my own - I tried once and they were horrible, all lumpy and yuck. I've bought some for tea - I LOVE them with maple syrup, Graham likes them with sugar and lemon.

No, it is not, nor have I ever heard of pancake day, LOL LOL....
I do like pancakes once in awhile.... I keep thinking I want to make some, then forget, LOL. I only use a box mix... where you add water and maybe an egg. I like choc. chips once in awhile. I think I will make some for lunch now that you mention it. See.. I will celebrate the day with you all the way over here, LOL. I just like plain old maple syrup on mine plus a dab of butter. I also was thinking of making crepes!! Now I don't know which to make! I think I will go with regular pancakes to celebrate the holiday, LOL.

Don't eat a lot of pancakes I'm afraid. But hope you enjoy the day!

Tell me more about "Pancake Day". We love pancakes and so do the pups. Don't tell anyone, but I sometimes take the pups to McDonalds on Saturday mornings and get them an order of pancakes and sausage. They both are great "fork" eaters. OMG...I guess that is why Wilma looks a little tubby!

It was Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) here yesterday. I was too lazy to make pancakes (though I do love them with either butter, sugar and lemon or golden syrup and lemon), they sold them at the kids school so they took some money to buy some (it's one of their fav days lol). Stephanie to avoid lumpy batter it's best to make it a few hours or evening before and let it sit in the fridge.
Pancake Day also known as Shrove Tuesday is the the day before Ash Wednesday (the beginning of Lent). More info here

Oh, I thought it was Pancake Day worldwide! Silly me! Pancake Day here is more of a commercial thing now, but its roots are Christian based. In olden days, people used to use up all the flour, butter, milk and eggs they had in the house and make pancakes, as the day after Pancake Day [tomorrow] signifies the beginning of Lent which is a time of fasting and abstinence.
Lent goes on up till Easter, and during this time Christians usually give up something and donate the money they money save to charity. Some also do something extra – like visit the elderly or go to Church more often. Nowadays very few people give up all the pancake ingredients for the entire period of lent, it’s more likely to be ‘treats’ items such as chocolate, cake, biscuits etc.
In some parts of the country, people actually have races whilst tossing pancakes -

I tried tossing my pancakes last time I made them, I threw one and missed and it fell on the floor – Jakey liked it – he was the only one of who did! LOL!

Lemon and sugar on pancakes????? just made me wince, LOL LOL.
Lent I do know about.... that is very big here too. Many give up chocolate for lent here, LOL. I never heard of the part about saving the money to donate though.... I'll have to ask around about that one.
