Default New laptop driving me crazy

we got a new laptop last week and DH "networked" the house so all our files are stored on a server and can be accessed by any enabled device in the house (PC, laptop, PS3). Everytime I try to get online I can't because he is tweeking it and the laptop which runs on Windows 7 has been a pain in the rear - taking strangely long time to shut down and then crashing, not communicating with network printer argh really annoying me. Spoke with the IT guy and he believes it's Windows 7??? Anyway DH was up till 1am removing some program he thought was causing the issues so far so good but we'll have to wait and see. Anyone else on Windows 7 and had any issues?

You and I are going through similar pains.

Yesterday, for various reasons, I ran a program called chkdsk to check my hardrive. It works at the DOS level - before Windows even starts. It stalled out which apparently can happen for a variety of reasons but I ended up having to call Dell tech support. There goes my evening. Plus, in the end, I still couldn't get into Windows - they said I'd need to restore my original configuration which would mean having to reinstall all my programs and data file. Arrrggghhh!

This morning I figured out a way to get Windows to boot, but so many files are corrupted that my programs are basically worthless. So I had to format my drive and start all over. ARRRGGGHHH AGAIN!

Now I'm in the very slow process of doing that. It will take me at least the next two days. Just copying my pictures back on is going to take 18 hours. Then there's music, podcasts, configuring my web development program extensions, ARRRGGHHHH AGAIN! I do everything on my computer - fortunately I have a program run in the background so I had backups of my data - it could actually be worse. But just reinstalling and configuring everything is very time consuming.

I think once you get your wireless network set up you will love it though. Technology is a wonderful thing....when it works.
