I haven't been watching, but heard there was recently some controversial call. It made me think of an interview I heard recently with
this author who builds a compelling case that many of these events are fixed.
He claims the outcomes of professional sports games are decided in advance in order to increase market share and maintain popularity with the fan base. It's a multibillion dollar international business where both individual leagues (for the above reasons) and mafia (for gambling profit reasons) manipulate the winners or winning spread for their purposes.
Don't know enough about the subject to agree or disagree, but he certainly seemed well informed.
