So I just need to vent, I got all worked up about it kind of last night on the phone to a friend of mine. None of this will probably make any sense, I have no offical facts or anything just my opinion and this could get boring... So I warned you.

I know that animal shelters and places like it (not all, but from what I've heard of or seen) can't afford to give animals more space and comfort and they can't keep them forever but I don't like that the animals are stuck in a small cage thing for most of the time and then if no one wants them, they get put down. It's just really wrong and I hate knowing that animals all over the world get put down just because no one wants them. I go onto the RSPCA adopt a pet all the time and I see heaps of animals from all over Australia and it sucks that they are stuck in there with no choice of what happens to them. Just to be put down when no one wants them.

And then there is pet stores, I hate them. The space for the animals is tiny, especially the dogs and cats. I can't stand Pets Paradise. The space for the dogs and cats is tiny as hell, I can't imagine how it would be like in summer for those poor animals. And all they have to stand and lay on is news paper.

I argued the point with friend last night that to have an animal in a shelter is the same as a child in an orphange (to a point). To put an unwanted animal down is like killing an orphan just because no one wants the child.

I just don't think animals should be confined to a small space for long periods of time no matter where they are and they shouldn't be put down for not being wanted.

Even though the Pedigree website has now removed the "...All responsible breeders should put white boxer puppies down at birth..." It still annoys me as it's saying anyone who doesn't put white boxer puppies down at birth are not responsible breeders. It also says something about being prone to skin cancer and deafness, well that still isn't a reason to put the puppies down, the point could be argued that does it mean that if a deaf baby is born, should it be killed? Or if someone is prone to skin cancer should they be killed? It's ridculous. Animals have rights aswell as humans.

Okay so I'm all vented now, thanks

I can't disagree with you at all except to say that I'm not so sure our species have as many rights as you might think. Isn't the whole point of much of amniocentesis testing in humans for the purpose of not bringing in a "defective" child?

And as long as we're venting on this thread, and comparing animal care/rights to humans, it tears me up to see children confined to rooms or even chairs in school all day, fed high calorie, nutritionally vacant food and then diagnosed with ADHD and drugged.

Or children returned to abusive situations just because their "owners" have biological ties, while there are long waiting lists of loving potential "owners" wanting to adopt.

Okay, I better stop now....

i dont know what it is like over there but i used to volunteer at my local animal shelter, and all we did there was take the animals out on walks and give them attention, and if you didnt have the time to actually go volunteer you could donate goods like blankets to sleep on or food, kitty litter, all that stuff(which i do now).not that it is perfect, but at least the animals are getting a chance at a new life however small that chance is. and not that i like the fact that so many animals are put down for "not being wanted" but if they werent can you imagine how high the dog population would be, it would be huge. and alot of the animals that get put down are done so for a reason, like they are extremely agressive and not safe to have around humans and animals, there are some that are put down for just not being wanted, but the reality is that there is just not enough space in the world for all the unwanted animals go. its sad but true. as for the white boxers, i do not think that they should be put down just because they are white, if they do have health problems they should just be fixed so they dont add the problems into the gene pool of the healthy white ones.

Just my two cents... But I think the problem at large is really irresponsible breeders and people who don't spay or neuter their animals. It makes me nuts going to the city and seeing, like I did a few months back, an intact male dog roaming around. Now you just KNOW what that's going to lead to.... Like you guys said, more dogs than there could ever be homes for. And it's really sad!
As for white boxers, they're going to be born, of course, but they shouldn't be bred to produce even more. But putting them down just because they're white is an awful concept, spay/neutered, they makes great dogs, just like any other boxer!

oh gosh talking about intact dogs running around. there are 3 different male dogs that have been getting out lately. and i live just outside a really small town. its a black lab, a whitish husky, and what is either a very large white boxer or a american bulldog. and just within the past week i have seen each of them at least twice. must be a girl in heat somewhere around here, the lab even still had his chain attached to his collar.

IMO there should be a spay/neuter program for humans...

my two cents about the any of this is, is to make sure you donate your dollars to somthing you believe in and to make sure your getting your value...

for example... dollar for dollar a bag of dog food is a better donation that the same dollar amount in cash. WHY? because you know 100% of your donation will be used for the right thing... perhaps your 30 dollars was used to buy euthansia drugs.

Also you can't put a price on love? This is true with any shelter or human.
