A sad shock

The priest of the Church I go to in Margate died last week. It was a huge shock. He is the priest that married my brother and baptised my nephew. I have known him many, many years. He was such a lovely man, really, I know all priests are meant to be lovely but he really was. He was such an intelligent man and he would always talk to you, just like a friend. I really can't believe he has gone. He did mass last Sunday and didn't feel well, on the Monday he went into hospital and on the Tuesday he had a massive heart attack and died. His funeral is next Friday, I shall go down to Margate to say goodbye. RIP Father Eric, I will you miss so much.

Thanks all for your concern. I still can't believe he has gone, it was so sudden like. He was in pretty good health, never had any problems with his heart as far as we knew, and was only in his late 60's. Such a sad loss.

that does seem sudden. how is everyone coping? so sorry for the whole community. it sounds like he was a good man.

Annie he was a good man and everyone is just shocked - it was so sudden, so quick. It's not like when someone is ill and you know life is ebbing away so you have time to prepare yourself and say your goodbyes etc. No one had the chance to do or say anything. They have temporary priests saying Mass at the moment. Some people are wondering about whether we will get a new priest or not - there is such a shortage of priests that in some areas priests do services in 2 or 3 Churches as there is no cover.

Sending my condolences, how sad, and of course a priest is so much in the spotlight, helping everyone, and always being there, hopefully all of your church will find the faith to get through this...
