Last Saturday it was a cold icey day, with frost on the ground and I was booked to walk a Novia Scotia Duck Tollier. He is a lovely dog, 11 months, no recall, loves everyone and every dog he meets..... Anyway, we were walking towards a clearing by the pond and when we got there we found a family and 4 or 5 children - around 3, 4 years of age. The kids all got excited and said "there's a dog, can we stroke the dog," and I said yes gently, so they stroked the dog nicely. I walked off when I heard one of the children say "I didn't stroke the dog, I didn't stroke the dog" and she came running up to me and said "can I stroke the dog?" She was the youngest child of the group, maybe 3 years, I said to her ofcourse. She went to touch the dog, then looked at me and said "but my hands are cold." I just couldn't help but smile, she was worried that her cold hands would make the dog cold, how sweet was that?

That sounds almost too good to be true--several little kids and all gentle with the dog--their mom and dad have really done an exemplary job teaching them to respect animals--and so sweet to worry about her cold hands, what a nice moment!

Honestly it was the sweetest moment & yes those parents are doing a fantastic job with those children. It is rare for a young 3 year old to be able to think like this, their view of the world can be rather egocentric. Tbh, it was all a surprise for me, usually kids run and scream when they see dogs and the parents make it worse by hiding their children behind them.
