My dad had his 80th birthday this week. We are so grateful to have him still with us. He had cancer year before and had to have chemo and everything and it was a hard time. So tomorrow the family and some friends are joining us and we are going out for a meal in a restaurant/pub. I have ordered champagne and a birthday cake. The pub has a singer entertaining downstairs and the manager has said he will send him upstairs to sing happy birthday to my dad. I have booked a magician too, he is coming for an hour to do some tricks. Hopefully it will be a fun night.

Thank you for your wishes. We had a great time really. The food was really nice and the magician was totally AMAZING!!! Honestly, he worked his way round the table doing various card tricks - all of which I have no idea how he did them - he got people to sign the cards as well so he wasn't using a double pack, also, he was wearing a short sleeved shirt so there was nothing up his sleeves either.......... At one point, he gave me 2 cards to hold, one in each hand and said he was going to swap them over, he held my hands and shook them, and somehow - no idea how, he managed to remove my watch - honestly I didn't feel a thing or realise it was missing - when he asked me had the cards swapped I said no, then he showed my watch and I was shocked, then he asked me to look at the cards and low and behold they had swapped over............staggering.........! He did a similar thing with putting one card underneath a glass and one on top and swapping those over. There were 12 of us on the table, and no one saw how he did these tricks.......You would think as he was so close you could see where the trickery was, but no he is obviously very adept and skillful. Everyone was in awe and he was only a young lad - 20 years. I haven't stopped raving about it - lol, the only other time I see magic is on TV and then you can say it is all down to the cameras etc..........

Anyway, I was a little disappointed with the cake. I said to the manager that it was up to the chef to be as creative as he wanted so long as the main covering was in white icing. I think it was a little plain and understated? but never mind, it tasted ok.

It was a great evening, sorry the picture isn't too great, I was a bit worse for wear by the time the cake appeared, and I forgot to ask it to smile - lol..........

I suppose if you had to choose, taste would win out over appearance-maybe he was going for understated elegance? The magician sounds amazing-I'm always sceptical and try to see how things are done-sounds like he would have stumped me!

I thought the cake looks so pretty and elegant for someone who is 80!!! I am so used to the grandkids cakes with all the newest cartoon character that is out that I am really loving this one!!! LOL

I am happy your party turned out so well. The magician sounds like such fun.
Did your Dad enjoy himself?
