This past weekend my daughter took and passed her black belt test in tae kwon do . She has been taking classes for about 5 years . It has been a long road with lots of training and commitment .
She had to first pass a fitness test which was doing 2 sets of 50 push ups in 1 1/2 minutes per set . 100 jumping jacks in
1 1/2 minutes and 100 sit ups in 1 1/2 minutes.
Then she was able to pre test . The pre test was a private test that included every self defense she has learned for all belt levels and all forms for all belt levels . It took an hour just to pre test .
Then she was able to take the written test , to pass you must have scored at least 80 %.
The final phase was a approx 3 hour test in front of an audience .
She did all her forms with no mistakes , it was amazing . Watching her brought tears to my eyes .
She did all her kicks that she has learned and did well .
She then did her self defense , she made a few mistakes but she was able to recover and defend herself / get away from her attacker . The worst part is the knife self defense where another black belt tries to stab them with a knife . She had to deflect the blows and be able to disarm the attacker . That always stresses me out even though it is not real they are really trying to hit you with the dull metal blade .
Then it came to board breaking . She had to break 2 one inch thick boards held together . And break with 3 different kicks .
She was able to do all 3 breaks . A quick video of 1 of her kicks.

Failing even 1 area of the test meant that she would not have gotten her belt .
There are no words to express how proud I am of her .
