Exclamation on the search for a new food....again!

We have a 10 month old white boxer, who seems to be very "picky" about her food. When she was much younger she would only seem interested in a particular food for about a month and then we would have to search for a new food and slowly introduce her to the next food. She has been on Nutro Ultra for about 3 months now and seems to like it. Last week she had a stomach infection that made anything she ate come directly out... not fun! The food had nothing to do with her infection (thats what the vet said) and the vet also said that she should be back to her normal poops by now(which she is not). I am up to try any food now, but not really sure what to try next.... any suggestions would be great!!

I'd try Orijen. www.championpetfoods.com
Lucky has been eating the puppy formula for almost a year. We're on her last bag and going to transition her to one of their adult formulas soon. She always looks forward to breakfast and dinner, eats all of it up. We feed her twice a day and with this food you don't need to feed a lot - for her (50lbs.) she eats just under 3 cups a day total. The same will be with the adult. The manufacturer actually says that some of the ingredients help nourish the digestive track.

After having such a bad stomach infection it may take a while for her system to get back to normal. I think if it were me I would feed her a bland diet for a couple of days. Like boiled chicken and white rice and gradually add her kibble back.

Welcome, White Boxers Rock! We need pictures!!

Welcome!!! Please post pics!!

I would try a bland diet for a couple days but then I'd look for a higher quality food. Nutro isn't very good and I've actually heard a lot of really bad things about that particular brand. I would recommend something like Taste of the Wild, Chicken Soup, Wellness, Orijen. You can check out Nutro or any of the listed foods at www.dogfoodanalysis.com under reviews. Good luck and hope your pup is feeling better soon!

i would agree with what the others said. Try something simple (but tasty to dogs) for a bit and work up to a high quality food.

I would also add some probiotics to her diet for a little while .
As the loose poop will get rid of all the good bacteria in the intestinal tract that needs to be there. You can give a spoonful of plain yogurt every day in her food or you can get something from the pet store like bene-bac .

A good bland diet is boiled chicken with rice and even a bit of pure canned pumpkin ( a spponful ) added in .

And hello & welcome.

Without being disrespectful, I'd say Vets are pretty knowledgable, but not about nutrition. You really need to do your own research there. Vets will recommend foods that are totally not right for dogs, mostly because their info comes from the dog food companies.

Keep us posted on your pup!
