Default A Whole Chicken For Tie's Birthday?

To remove this ad please Register
Tie's B-day is sometime in August (i don't know the exact date) but i was thinking of giving him a whole chicken....one of the smaller ones as a special b-day treat.

Can he get everything? Or is there a better meaty treat i can give him?

Sure, he can have it, but when you feed bone you shouldn't give kibble within 12 hrs or so. They digest at different rates. But if you feed twice a day that shouldn't be a huge issue. (you're feeding it raw? if you cook it, he can't have the bone)

I big ol beef rib is a nice treat too. Gives about 2 hrs of good chewing time! My dogs love them!

Do your dogs ever cut themselves on the bones?

no, raw bones are pliable. It's the cooked bones that are sharp and dangerous.

He is going to LOVE you! Can't wait to see the video. I had been thinking of recording Ruby eating her raw meals and posting them to show people it's safe and how much they enjoy it. I'm just not organised enough , so now I'll leave it up to you

I haven't ventured into raw feeding yet, so this is probably a dumb question, but is it okay to give a whole chicken if they aren't "warmed up" to eating raw by starting with a little bit? It just seems like (at least with kibble) they talk about gradually transitioning to something new. Just curious.

Yeah it's fine to give a whole chicken without letting them "warm up to it", you can't really transition it as you cannot mix kibble and raw in the same meal. Some have a slight change in their stools for a very short time (we didn't have any problems changing from what her breeder was feeding though) and she sometimes gets the odd kibble meal if I've forgotten to defrost something or if we are away and we have had no problems with her stools.
