I read somewhere that raw hides are bad for dogs. Can someone tell me why?

yeah they can get stuck in your boxer throat, especially the raw hides with the nobs on the end. If you want to give your dog a bone-like treat, i would suggest giving him an actual bone.

the bone MUST BE raw....

I had to pull a raw-hide out of my dog's throat before. If I wasn't around, I'm not sure what would have happened.

I've also noticed, for what ever reason, a raw-hide can bring the worst out in a dog. This is particularly true when there are two dogs involved. We were visiting a friend who has a lab and they gave the dogs a raw-hide each. The lab got very possessive of the treats and bit our dog.

I've spoken to a lot of people who have had similar experiences.

Wow, I didn't know a dog could choke on a rawhide bone. Thanks for the info! I'll be getting rid of all my rawhides now.
