Update on Memo...
To remove this ad please Register
I don't want to jinx myself, but....Memo has not shaken his head, no scratching...no symptoms since i took him off the chicken!! I've also pretty much taken away ALL snacks. He's only on the venison 2x per day...i've increased amount a bit, bc he's lost about 2lbs. I've removed dairy & banana, and anything with brewers yeast for now too....in a few mths i'll slowly reintroduce these. Can anyone please recommend a midday snack that would be ok for dogs w allergies?? The cost to feed him is now nearly 3 times what it was!!

Great news Eli, how about sweet potato? or if you want to put a bit of weight back on him, here's a link for satin balls:
http://www.njboxers.com/satin-balls-recipe.htm
I gave them to Ruby when we first got her to help her put weight on – personally I wouldn't use the cheapest meat, although I think the reason they say that is because it tend to be most fatty meat. You might also want to omit the Total cereal if it has wheat in it, some 'allergic' dogs can react to that as well.
Other non-allergic snacky things are mainly fruit and veg [poor Jakey got allergies to most of them too though!]
You could make him a couple of frozen [or just stuffed] kongs filled with a mix of pureed fruit/veg and/or sweet potatoes and keep him busy at the same time!
Another idea which I do sometimes is to boil up some liver, cut into pieces and then cook it again in the oven for an hour or so on a very low heat until the pieces go very dry and black/dark coloured and are hard and sound hollow to tap - they make good training treats.

So glad things are getting better. I had the same thing happen when we took chicken out of Keepers diet, I thought "it can't be this easy". As for a snack, Keeps loves sweet potato. He also does ok, not great poops but not itchy, on oatmeal.

Hol. vet told me to keep him strictly on the venison for 3 mths, after that i will give him the chicken...and within 4 days he should have a reaction if chicken is the prob....if it's not chicken then my guess is the fish, veggies or dairy??

thanks, i will check out the satin balls! I think Memo may be like Jakey, bc hol. vet did mention i needed to remove some fruits/vegs also bc he could be having allergies to them. Actually i was told to strictly stick to the green leafy vegetables for now bc i had wanted to add the sweet potato...in 3 mths i will add it!
I like the idea of cooking the liver in the oven, i think that's what i'll do...i just have to be careful to not give him too much LOL...poor boy, he is the type that needs more food to keep the weight on....Nikita on the other hand, always keeps her 'figure'.
