what type of food are you feeding him? How much are you feeding him? How heavy is he?

Remember puppies shouldn't be gaining too much weight, you don't want them fat. Our pups always have an athletic look to them, with ribbing showing slightly but not pronounced. most puppies gain about 3-5 pounds a week, so you may be weighing him too often

Don't allow him to have food all the time, this will cause dogs to develop anorexia, you need to feed 3 times a day and an amount that he will finish in about 5-8 minutes.

Call your breeder and discuss this with them as well. I'm sure they can help you out too.

Also, has he been checked for worms? This will keep weight off also...

how is his poops? i ask this because purina isnt really the best quality and pups cant always digest it very well because of all the fillers. you may want to try a different food and see how it goes. .go to Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble that will give you some good ideas on the best food to give to your puppy.

If he doesn't finish in 10 minutes you should take it away for the next feeding, don't allow him to eat when he feels like it. Once he gets the idea, he will eat it all knowing it will not wait for him...

Glad you asked this question. My girl Roxy isn't underweight, however I had been doing research on different types of food to ensure she was getting the best. I found and like (even talked to the vet about it Saturday) Taste of the Wild. There is only 1 place where I live that sells it, so I think I'm going to grab a small bag and gradually change her over and see if she likes it. The vet even said if she likes it to let them know and they will do further research with what they have available to give me some more insight.

What I liked about it was that it was grain free and used very natural products (even the fish) in their dog food. Very high protein content and uses sweet potatoes and white potatoes as its filler.

If anyone else has used this food or has any insight on it I would love to know.

*Sorry for hijacking the post, just thought this would help you too! )
