Default Under weight pup?

Hello everyone!!

I have a quick question, my puppy Diesel is going to be 10 months old on 9/28, and he is only about 35-40 pounds. He doesnt seem to be to thin ( his ribs are just visable). But he also seems to be on the shorter side...

Does this seem normal to you guys?

Thanks!!

Hi and welcome. The best way to check is by the ribs, in Boxers it is normal to see the last two ribs but you don't want to see any more than that. Remember dogs like people can vary in size, at 10 months our girl like many boxers that age was kinda lanky looking so as long he is eating normally, active, and no more than last two ribs showing I wouldn't worry.

Thank you for both of your replies! I guess I was just expecting a bigger pup since the breeder said his dad was 85-90lbs, but I guess he got his mothers genes...lol. He is very healthy as far as his physical appearence, his last three ribs are showing, but the third one you can only really see when he takes deep breaths.

newman was skin and bones for the longest time, i thought he was too skinny until after he was a year old. even now sometimes i think he is looking thin, we have to feed this thing an immense amount of food! especially when he was a puppy it was hard (almost impossible) to feed him enough to fill out.......it takes time!

yeah the rib area is probably the best spot to see how healthy their weight is.
