Yes its alright to add water to your dogs food. As far as digestion I don't know if there are any benefits.

Adding water won't hurt anything, but I wouldn't add too much. Watery food is good for puppies learning to eat their first solids, but I think it's not necessary for adult dogs.

Do not add water to a food that uses citric acid as a preservative, this increases the risk of bloat.

Unless your dog is very young or has a hard time chewing, adding water probably shouldn't be done. Adding water to soften the food will decrease any teeth cleaning benefit the crunchy kibble has.

I have added hot water to Boo's food when her allergies were bad because the hot water made her better able to smell her food through all her congestion.
