The American Kennel Club categorizes Boxer Dogs as the largest breed registered in the "working dog" category. They were trained as courier dogs on the battlefields during World War I and World War II. The standing height of a full-grown female is 21 - 25 inches at the shoulder, and weight between 50 and 65 pounds. The male can be taller and 15 pounds heavier. If you ask a boxer dog owner about the resemblance of his dog to himself, he'd probably tell you that his dog can almost mirror his mood! |

Interesting. I didn't know they were couriers, brave little dogs!! I wonder why boxers are considered a working dog though.

They are considered a working dog because they were also trained to hunt wild pigs, and they are also trained to be seeing eye dogs

I have also heard that boxers were German fighting dogs. Any truth to that??

Weird that they are considered the largest in the working class as the great dane is also in the working group . I would believe this as they also have some other info wrong . Unlesss they mean the largest number of dogs registered for the breeds in the working group .
Here is the correct info on the size of boxers from the American boxer Club site . Size, Proportion, Substance Size: Adult males 23 to 25 inches; females 21½ to 23½ inches at the withers. Proper balance and quality in the individual should be of primary importance since there is no size disqualification.

Boxers are very versatile, but they were mainly used for hunting and later for police work. They even use them for herding in some places.
