LOL, at the size of that bone! Buddy's face is a picture of beauty though, love his ears! We put a big plastic industrial strength dust mat down Sally and confine each dog to the hall way area and put the baby gate up. It's easy to cover the whole floor area there as it's small and they have no where else to take it [no one has tried going upstairs with one yet!]. Also, we can still see whoever's eating [from the sitting room] through the baby gate to make sure they are okay with it. Would that be possible at all?

It would probably be worth trying if he was going to be done with it in a few hours but since it's something he'll be going back to for a week or more, I don't think that would work in our house layout. But we did get another bone last night which we're hopeful about.
It's an all natural from USDA inspected facilities and is big enough he can't easily throw it around, although he can carry it. Also, it has the joints on the end which are rounded so when he drops it we shouldn't get divots in the floor. We'll see how it goes - keep your paws crossed!

My dopey dogs want to stay out in this weather!!! I went out to pick up poop, still in my nightgown (only because of Rex and his poop eating!!), I think my nightgown got static cling and kept creeping up my legs.... brrrrrrrrr!!!!! But I kept up the job at hand so they could play out there and I don't have to think of what Rex is eating. Good thing we keep on top of the cleaning up situation with 2 dogs, it sure piles up fast if you don't do it everyday. It has been too cold to go out to do it more than that, LOL. We have the same temps as you right now Sally. Wind and all.
I don't let them stay out more than 10 minutes at a time, but they do go out alot to get their exercise... they non stop run while out there.

Yes, I forgot, I can't leave bones lying around - it's the only thing that causes fights between my 2 - usually Jakey concedes everything to Madam, but not his precious bone. So, they get one shot at it [separately] and then it's thrown away. How did it go with the new bone - any luck?

He likes the new bone fine, but he hasn't had it much. The last few days he's not been eating as much - like half his normal amount - and this morning he threw up 3 times. Green slimy, watery liquid. So he's not gotten the new bone much since I didn't want to give it to him if he wasn't eating right.
The decreased appetite all started after that big bone so I'm thinking he's still working through something related to it. His poop was white the first day, now it's normal. Other than that, he's been fine when he's awake, but maybe more prone to napping. But in general good spirits so I'm not going to worry about it too much.
Kinda strange though.

He's doing fine. It turns out his decreased appetite wasn't the bone - it was a batch of turkey mix that coincidentally was started the same day. He didn't want it. So he wasn't eating so much and sleeping more, maybe because he was tired. He's had the turkey before but for some reason he really hated it this time.
After a few days I thought this is just so not like him. And I got really suspicious when he came by me whining like he was hungry but when I gave it to him he pushed the dish with his nose, like he was trying to move it out of the kitchen. So I took it away and gave him a pork mix and he gobbled it down. He's been eating like normal ever since.
I don't know if he'll eat the turkey later or not. I sure hope so because we have about 30# of it in our freezer! But I'm glad to know he's fine - that's the important part.
He sure loves his new bones! buddybone.JPG
