Default Older dog with new puppy?

Hi, I currently have a 9 year old boxer female. She is really fit and healthy for her age. She occasionally has a bad day where she cant be bothered doing anything but sleep all day, esp if its raining! But shes normally still quite energetic. She is mostly okay with other dogs, really just depends on what the other dog is like.

We really want to get another puppy, another female, so just looking for some advice like whether you think she is too old to handle a puppy at her age? also will the two females get along okay? thanks

my oldest boxer is 9 and i just got a new puppy. Tie loves his new pal and i think the extra exercise he's getting playing with him has made him more active!

If she's healthy and you're ready for the challenges of another boxer, i'd say GO FOR IT!

Many time a puppy will help keep the older one active , but they can also get grouchy when the puppy acts obnoxious ( which will definately happen) .

As far as will they get along . Most times an adult will accept a puppy . As the puppy ages the adult will tolerate the obnoxious behavior less and correct the puppy more , this is normal and a good thing .

The best pairing is usually one of each sex followed by 2 males and last 2 females .
The problem is usually when the younger dog hits maturity ( around age 2 ) they may challenge the older dog , that is when the fighting may begin . Females who decide they do not like each other will usually never forget it and will usually have to be kept seperated and very closely supervised as they can fight to the death .@ males who fight will usually fight and forget about it and be frienda again an hour later .

But all that being said there are many cases of 2 females lving together peacefully ( but many more of them fighting and having to live seperated or re-homed), you just have to honestly evaluate the temperment of your existing dog and be sure to get a puppy of the opposite temperment . If your dog is dominant be sure NOT to get a dominant puppy .

Many reputable breeders will not place a puppy of the same sex in a home with an existing dog .
