Default Boxer Puppy and Cats???

To remove this ad please Register
Hi there,
We have been contemplating adopting a boxer puppy for some time now. Having just moved and started new jobs we were waiting until we were settled before we pursued this any further. The only remaining concern that I have is that we have 3 cats that have never been around dogs before - does anyone have any experience bringing a boxer pup into a home with cats?
We'd appreciate any input anyone has...
Thanks,

We do not have cats so I am not much help there . But the puppy would just have to be trained to be nice with the cats . Same thing that you would do with small kids . It will be a daily thing to keep on top of and it will not happen over night but you can have a puppy and cats .

I have also been told it is best for the cats to have some safe place to go to , a place where the puppy is not allowed . Like a room with a gate in the door way , the cats can jump over but the puppy can not .

I have a 2yr old cat and a kitten thatis about the same age as peaches 11 months. We got peaches at 9 weeks and the kitten at 6 weeks. Peaches and the kitten were bestest buds for the longest time pestering each other. Now that peaches is much larger they don't interact as much. Our cats are allowed many safe areas, back of couches, cat tree, beds, and the basement. Our oldest cat isn't fond of the dog and lets peaches know when she is getting too close.

Make sure the litter boxes are away from your dog as peaches has tried snacking in there. Also if your cats don't feel safe in their litter boxes they might choose to go potty elsewhere.

Having cats and getting a puppy is a huge bonus because they no longer associate cats as something to chase. I have been offleash with peaches and she will see another cat won't chase it.
