How Much Exercise for Puppy Is Good?
To remove this ad please Register
How much exercise should puppies have for 8-12 weeks, 3-4 months, 4-6 months, etc?
Do you think you can ever over do it?

I think the guideline is 10 mins walking for each month in age. No running or jumping until 12 months old I believe so you don't stress their growing bones/joints.

I totally forgot about the jumping because of the joints! That's important. But how do you keep a boxer puppy from running... I didn't do that. I just remember not letting them jump down from being in the back area of the truck.

It is more of a forced exercise thing .
If they are loose and playing in the yard they are able to stop and rest if they need to . And it would be things like jumping off higher things like furniture & beds .

I'm no expert, but I ran with Lucky when she was a puppy when she got to be around 4 months. She loved it, and when I saw her start to get tired, we walked until we were home. Personally, I think exercising with a puppy is better than not.

"Forced" running or jumping like jogging, bike riding, agility, jumping up into a high car etc. Normal day to day running in play (like around the house/yard) is fine. I agree though how would you stop them from Boxer burning lol I miss puppy burns. Ron can you get me a video of Newman puppy burning? Pleeeease.

Don't know for sure--but I'm thinking that is a good description for Wally racing from one end of the house to the other for 5-10 minutes like a mad fiend---don't get in the way!!

I hear you on that one Lori!!! I have both of mine doing that to me, that I walk along leaning against the walls, so I don't get knocked over like they did to me outside one morning and knocked me on the ground! Now when outside, I never have my back to them! I walk along the fence of stay out of their "pathway" !!!

Boxer burning but funnier. Boxer burning is when they all of a sudden decide to run as fast as they can for no reason in particular and usually involves them doing laps of something like the hallway (Ruby only did them inside when she was little - she needs more room now lol) or backyard and don't get in their way while they are in the middle of one or you'll get knocked over lol. I have read someone describe it as though they are running "like the devils after them" lol. What you and Lori described was a Boxer Burn. Puppy Burns are really funny because they are clumsy and uncoordinated and haven't quite got the stopping thing figured out yet sometimes she would trip over herself lol my kids would always call out "boxer burn" and climb up onto the closest piece of furniture when Ruby would do one as a pup as she would crash into them, it was espec funny when we got our tiles as she would take corners really fast but couldn't grip and she'd go sliding in the wrong direction and usually collect with a wall.
