Default Ringworm Outbreak Sparks Massive Euthanization

How does this even happen at a shelfter?

Quote:
Hundreds of animals at an OSPCA shelter in Newmarket have been handed the death sentence.

All of the 350 dogs, cats and other small animals in the York Region shelter are to be put down because of a ringworm outbreak.

Ringworm is contagious among humans and highly contagious among animals.

Kate MacDonald, CEO of the Ontario SPCA, says they have tried to contain the outbreak for weeks.

She says the animals will be euthanized in the next few days and the shelter has already been closed.

It will likely reopen by next week after the shelter is sterilized.

The SPCA has also hired security guards to keep watch while the animals are put to sleep

This is totally awful. Ringworm isn't that bad surely to warrant this sort of response....

i just want to know HOW so many of the animals were infected? Obviously the facility has some serious issues. I wont be surprised if criminal charges are laid

I seen this on the news tonight and I wondered the same thing? How the heck do they all get ringworm? Do the workers have? I have heard it is very contagious? Cause people can catch it to. I had it years ago and caught it from my sisters rabbit.
