We have confirmation .

I had an ultrasound done to confirm that Edy is pregnant and to check and see if we could get a rough idea of how many . The vet saw 6 puppies possibly more . All had nice and strong heartbeats , it was amazing to see those little legs moving around .
I am more than excited to see these babies .

Great news, congatulations Edy. I have loads of questions about this as I know nothing about pregnant dogs and breeding etc., and it's so interesting to learn. Does Edy act any different in her behaviour? Will you have to feed her anymore than usual? I'm guessing yes, how much more will you give her as the pregnancy progresses? And how much weight on average will she gain? Humans are meant to take iron supplements when they first get pregnant - so do you or will you add vitamin or any other type of supplement to her diet? When will she 'look' pregnant by eye? and please can you post a pregnant photo - I don't think I have ever even seen an actual pregnant dog. Sorry if the questions sound silly, such is my ignorance. This is very exciting though!

There are no silly questions . How can someone learn if others are not willing to share what they know .
Does Edy act any different in her behaviour?
She is acting different . She is extremely clingy , normally she is no where this needy . She has been sleeping more too .
Will you have to feed her anymore than usual? I'm guessing yes, how much more will you give her as the pregnancy progresses?
I have started feeding her more . But as the puppies get bigger I will have to start feeding 3 or 4 smaller meals per day . She will eat up to 50% more than normal and this will continue through the puppies nursing .
Humans are meant to take iron supplements when they first get pregnant - so do you or will you add vitamin or any other type of supplement to her diet?
No suppliments , just her regular meals. Too much Vit A can actually cause the embryos to not attatch to the uterus , in dogs at least .
When will she 'look' pregnant by eye? and please can you post a pregnant photo
Usually about 5 weeks they will start to show a bit . And yes I will post some pics as she grows .

Wow, thanks for explaining Missi - that is all so interesting, I am quite staggered to read that she will be eating up to 50% more food, I would never have guessed at that much. Could you tell any sexes from the ultrasound or are they too tiny yet?

I won't know the sex until they arrive . Those littel babies wiggle and move so much it is hard to even get an accurate count .

Sounds like we will need to have a 'virtual shower' for Edy! (is she the one acting as the cushion in your photo, or the one enjoying it?)
