Grrr, stupid bus driver...

Well, now I read quite a few posts where people meet up against silly remarks and reactions to their dogs but I have never had any such experiance until last Friday. I went to get on a bus and the driver point blank refused to let me and Ruby on......................... I couldn't believe it - so I asked him why - he said I can only carry assistance dogs - and he got his rule book out and waved the page at me, so I said to him - well that's not true I have got the bus many times and never had problem before, so I asked him to show me the page where it said that he wasn't allowed to carry any other type of dog. Silly man, showed me a page that said, "Say YES, to calm and unthreatening dogs................" well, I laughed and said to him, that just proves that what you are saying is wrong - look at my dog she is totally calm. Well, ofcourse he started to get angry and said, "I'm not having no dangerous dog on my bus.............." I said she's not dangerous look at her - Ruby bless her was just standing there behaving herself. "Well, she hasn't got a muzzle" I said she has look - she had her halti head harness on which is like a muzzle anyway. Well he got even more angry and said "I am not moving this bus, get off my bus." I said, no, phone the bus garage I want to talk to the manager - he said "I don't know the number," I said I'm not getting off the bus so he shouted at the other passengers - "you all need to get off the bus, I'm not going anywhere" and he turned the engine off. At this point then all the passengers started moaning at me.......... so I said to him, I am going to report you and got off the bus. Well, since then I have reported the whole incident, conclusion - it will be internally investigated and I will NOT know of the outcome - so how's that for public service - great!
We managed to get on the next bus next trouble at all and here's a picture of what Ruby does on the bus, so dangerous........not......LOL.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. That is just insane. So glad you stuck up for yourself and did what you did. Doreen's got a great idea, submit it to the paper, I bet they'd publish the story. Great pic by the way!

"internal investigation" i doubt that means much. Is the CITY bus service there owned by the city? or is it private?

It's private - private companies are given the right to run particular routes by the Mayor's office - different companies run different routes in different areas. I could complain to the Mayor but, I am sure it would be considered that he has more important things to do than bother with this - mind you if it happens again I may well do so. And I do agree with you "internal investigation" probably equals a cup of tea and a chat with the driver about the footie................

that sucks then. Here in Ontario, almost all municipal transit is run by the city.

Joe V and Doreen, I know what you are saying is true, but I live in London where there is a lot of stress and a few weird people around who have nothing better to do than make trouble. There is no way I would want to be indentified through having my picture in the paper - which the local press would require for a story like this. I would probably get all sorts of weird mail too from anti-dog people and I just don't need that.

You did the right thing by making him show you the rule. Some people are just prideful and stubborn. Shown they are wrong, they only dig in more.
I think it would be fun if you know what bus it is, to try it again after there's been a few days for their tea time chat. Bring a video camera for if he refuses and post it on YouTube. You don't need no stinkin' newspaper!!! Publish your own way!
I love that shot too! Great pic!

haha i love it, yes try again a couple days, maybe a week. and yes bring a video camera. what a jerk, he must just be a cat person. or maybe he got bit once and is actually scared of all dogs. either way as long as ruby was good(which i know she was) then there should not be a problem with it.
