Default 6 single VPB's

I have recently been notified that the breeder I have chosen has decided to sell me a pup, which will be born Oct 31/10. I noticed that the parent has 6 single VPBs on the SAS? What does this mean? and is it a good thing?

VPC's are missed heart beats ( in simple terms) . When a boxer is holtered to screen for ARVC they record every heart beat in a 24 hour period . Missed beats are recorded as well .

6 singles is considered ( currently) clear of ARVC and nothing to worry about . I say currently because ARVC can show up at any age . Which is why breeding dogs should be holters many times over their life .

When you see doubles/ pairs or runs then that is more evidence of the dog having ARVC .

so when I get the pup should I be screening for the same things? I do not want to breed him but is it something I should have looked at anyway?

That is totally up to you .
ARVC is usually found in older dogs , that does not mean a younger dog will not have / get it . But holter data shows older dogs will tend to be the ones who are throwing 100's or 1000's of VPC's even if they have no other signs of the disease .So holtering at a young age or even just once may not give you any long term information . It is multiple holters throuout the dogs life that will let you know whether he is still clear of ARVC .

You could holter him , it can cost $150-$200 to rent a monitor and then $30-$50 to have the tape read .

When you holter and it comes back with a high number of VPC's that does NOT mean the dog will die of ARVC .

My old oy Titan was holtered at age 5-6 , he had over 500 VPC's with some doubles . But he lived to just shy of 13 with never having any outward signs of ARVC . He passed of cancer .

so in other words its not worth the money to do it if he is just gonna be a family member?! Just love him lots and stop over thinking things!
I have just wanted a boxer for ever and want to be educated on the things that could go wrong. Not saying that it will but ya never know. He will come from really good lines and I guess that should help him!
