As some of you know I am inline for a pup. I am sooo in love with him already and now don't know what to do!!!!!!

I recentley asked to see the non-breeding contract to go over and see what it is all about. There is a couple of points in it that I can't not live with. The first point is that there is NO health garuntee and the second point is that there is one price for all the pups, which I understand due to the fact that it costs the same to raise all pups whether they are show quality or not. I would be willing to pay the price asked is there was a health garuntee.

I asked the breeder if the terms of the contract could be tweaked, and she said no. She also said that they stand behind their dogs but if that were true wouldn't they atleast offer a 1 year garuntee?

I would like to know what the terms of the contract you have or signed and is this normal practice?

I know that boxers are prone to several issues and don't want to be spending that amount of money to just find that they are only gonna be around a short time.

IMO you have waited to be able to get a good quality pup from a Rep breeder so don't settle for something you're not comfortable with now. Get back to looking for a breeder and make sure you ask about the health guarantee. Perhaps you should put together a list of things/questions that are important to you so when you are enquiring you don't forget anything. Just don't rush into it because you are suckered in by the "cuteness".

I agree with AussieGirl. That doesn't sound right to me.

They're all cute - even the ones that aren't. Seriously.

If there is NO health guarantee, how are they standing behind the pups? Are the parents health tested? certified and copies of the health clearance available for you to see?

What would they do if the pup had a health problem?????

both parents are ARVC and SAS tested and both passed. Everything is avalible to me if I ask for it!

I emailed the breeder back when she said that as soon as they leave her care she has no controll over it which I understand to a certain degree (food/lifestyle) so I specified about genetic disorders but she hasn't got back to me! I also didn't know that the testies in boxer males sometimes don't come down when they are supposed to?!

I wouldn't mind spending the $1500 if there was a health garuntee!!!!!!!

If you can not live with what the breeder has to offer then do not do it . After all you should be able to have an ongoing relationship with your breeder . Some breeders will tweak their contracts with each puppy buyer .

I do know of some reputable breeders who do not offer guarantees - as there is no guarantee with any living being . And others who offer a replancment or refund ONLY for life threatening issues or death before a certain age.

Exactly what do you want in a health guarantee ?

I want the peice of mind that if something goes wrong, life threatening illness/disease etc I would not have had my family get attachted then find out that the pup is goning to die earlier than he is supposed to.

I know getting a pup from a rep breeder chances of that happening are slim to none but there is always that chance of something going wrong!

If there was something in the contract about replacment or refund I wounld have an issue but there is nothing. It stated "AS IS"!!!!!!!!

IMO a health guarantee is only as good as a person's word.... It may be written but still you must realize the cost to enforce them for failing to live up to it would far exceed the results.

You can't give a warranty on a living object... IMO

I don't think anything will protect you in that manner. If the pup gets ill and dies, warranty or not, you will grieve. Perhaps you mean that if they give you a warranty they are more confident this will not happen to you, than if they won't. I can see that logic, but really it's just a business decision to them. If they can sell the pups without providing a warranty, why take the risk?

I'm not so sure that's true. I've never seen any thing to support it anyway. I've read that the incident of health problems is actually lower in mixed breeds although I don't know that's really supported either. I suspect that's a highly controversial and debated topic where people can slant statistics however they want but my point would be don't put all your eggs in that basket. If the parents are healthy, and you provide the dog with good food/environment, the odds are in your favor no matter what, but I don't believe there are any real guarantees.

I totally understand your concern. That's a lot of money to put out for anything without any kind of guarantee. Talk with them about it and explain to them that this is nothing personal but you have real concerns about putting out that kind of money without any show of "good faith" on their part. If it's a deal breaker for you, let them know that too. They may not care if they think they can sell the pup without it - this is a business to them, after all. But hopefully it's more than that and if they are confident of their health record with pups, and really want you to have the pup, they might go along with it.

If not, they really are all cute and you will find another one that is waiting for you.

Tough place to be in. Good luck.
