I don't think anything will protect you in that manner. If the pup gets ill and dies, warranty or not, you will grieve. Perhaps you mean that if they give you a warranty they are more confident this will not happen to you, than if they won't. I can see that logic, but really it's just a business decision to them. If they can sell the pups without providing a warranty, why take the risk?

I'm not so sure that's true. I've never seen any thing to support it anyway. I've read that the incident of health problems is actually lower in mixed breeds although I don't know that's really supported either. I suspect that's a highly controversial and debated topic where people can slant statistics however they want but my point would be don't put all your eggs in that basket. If the parents are healthy, and you provide the dog with good food/environment, the odds are in your favor no matter what, but I don't believe there are any real guarantees.

I totally understand your concern. That's a lot of money to put out for anything without any kind of guarantee. Talk with them about it and explain to them that this is nothing personal but you have real concerns about putting out that kind of money without any show of "good faith" on their part. If it's a deal breaker for you, let them know that too. They may not care if they think they can sell the pup without it - this is a business to them, after all. But hopefully it's more than that and if they are confident of their health record with pups, and really want you to have the pup, they might go along with it.
If not, they really are all cute and you will find another one that is waiting for you.
Tough place to be in. Good luck.
