Default Where Does Your Dog/Where Did Your Puppy Sleep?

I am curious, because ever since we got her home last Friday night she has been in the bed with us every night. I don't mind too much, but we don't have a really big bed so I have a hard time sleeping with an 8lb puppy all over the place, and trying to be conscious of her whereabouts.

Its not my doing either, my SO wants her in the bed, he thinks of her as a baby and thinks she needs to be near, so weird. It was either the puppy or my almost 2 year old & he's bigger & kicks...come to think of it at least he doesn't bit and pounce on my face in the middle of the night, ha!

Anyways, I want to get her out of our bed, but she yelps in the crate (which is where she stays during the day) and roams all over the bedroom if laid down on her bed (which is on the floor right beside our bed). I don't know what to do but I need some sleep and need her out of our bed, hahaha, help!

when we first got bo at 8 weeks old i had his crate on the floor next to my bed. the number 1 rule has always been hes not allowed to sleep in bed with us. but with the crate up there it was still like he was sleeping with us but we still had our own space and didnt have to worry about him getting into stuff.. once he grew out of that crate we got him the biggest size and moved it down stairs and he is happy there... if i were you i would move her into a crate in your room soon. if you think its hard having her in bed with you now imagine when she is full grown and and still wanting to sleep with you.i would do it sooner rather then later because it will be harder to teach her once she has done it for a couple weeks/months.... she will cry the first night or 2 but you have to stay strong... after a while of having her sleep in her crate next to your bed you will be able to open the door so she can go in and out at night but she will already be used to not sleeping with you.... sorry this reply is kind of long

We're looking like the PitaPata girls here, lol!

Anyway, Buddy sleeps on a cot by our bed. I don't think I'd want him in bed for a number of reason. Most of all we would NEVER get any sleep! He's pretty happy with his bed which works for all of us I guess.

I'm warning you, if you like your sleep, DON'T LET THE DOG SLEEP IN YOUR BED. We made that big mistake!!! Trust me, I love my dogs to pieces, but when they move closer and closer to you every time you turn over, they can push you right out of the bed! I am sorry I ever let them in and I have a King size bed! Luckily Rex will get up and go to sleep elsewhere most of the time, but Coco NEVER will. She HAS to sleep touching someone!!! I swore, before we got more dogs, no more dogs on furniture of any kind, but I gave in....big mistake!!!

I really like Erin's suggestion Having the crate by the bed is the best of both worlds! That way, she will feel safe because she is by you, but will be in the crate where she can't wander around.
Personally, I don't allow Shenzi, my puppy, on the bed. I just think it's kind of gross, like wearing your shoes in bed! I mean they've been walking around outside! But I think I'm just over analytical haha. She has a crate at the end of my bed where she usually sleeps. When she was younger I would lock her up for the night. Recently, she's about 7 months, I've been letting her sleep outside of the crate and she's got a dog bed under my bed.

That's another good reason.

Buddy sleeps in this Coolaroo cot and then we have a leash that the handle end of we hook under one of the legs. He obviously could pull the whole bed around if he wanted to, but he's quite content to lay down by our bed and go to sleep. We put something over top of it for more cushion although I have no idea why because it's plenty cushy as it is.

In fact, several years ago we purchased a remarkably similar type cot for very young grandchildren because that's what they were using at daycare for naps. Our seven year old is sleeping over tonight (YAY!) and he prefers that to a queen sized bed in the guest bedroom - so they must be comfortable.

When Buddy was just a pup we started this bedtime routine where he comes in the bedroom and gets a treat before laying in his bed. Now he pushes open the bathroom door and stares at me if he's ready to go to bed but hasn't gotten his treat yet! Goofy dog won't go to bed without his treat!

we don't let the dogs sleep with us.

But they do enjoy a good morning snuggle!!
