Default things to do before we pick up our new dogs??

We decided to adopt 2 6 month old brothers. We will be picking them up on Tuesday and want to be ready. Help make a list of things we may want to do before getting the dogs.

We have a local vet lined up.
We will get 2 crates, collars, dog bowls, chew toys, bed for crate, leash.

we will have some food (whatever brand they eat)

We will get their medical records when we pick them up and contact info for their current vet.

I believe they have had some sort of flea treatment but I would like to do something to treat for fleas before bringing them into my house (recommendations?)
they currently spend more time outdoors than inside so are there other things I need to look into?

Sorry, I am too tired to even think right now... I know things will come to me, but I had such a busy day that I am heading for bed very soon. I know others will beat me to thoughts too.

Your camera and lots of patience!

2 at a time--good luck, Wally was enough for me!

Personally I would advise you NOT to take both. Dogs don't care if they stay together or not. They would be better suited to be in separate homes.

You are up for some very difficult training and basic living with litter mates.

Why do they have fleas? They will most likely have tapeworms as well.

If you are going to take on this endeavor you should find a trainer to go and evaluate these two prior to taking them.

I currently have a client (I am a canine behaviorist) with 2 pit bull litter mates, and this is an on-going challenge.

even for a totally experienced trainer there are difficulties, please re-consider...

as far as the fleas, make sure they are treated with a specific treatment from the Vet.and as far as the home, any couch, bedding, rugs could harbor the eggs, (powders or flea collars cut up and placed into them) if you have a cat or any other dogs they will have to be treated proactively.

2!! that will be an experience. one six month old boxer is hard enough even when you have them from 8 weeks. i know that was the hardest age for Bo., and 2 pups that lived outside will be about 10 times harder to deal with, because they probably havent been socialized at all.
but if you do decide to 100% get both of them:
get a flea spray or powder and do your whole house before they get there, most of these last a couple months so it will keep killing any fleas that got missed on the dogs... you may want to get extra collars as they may want to chew them off each other. lots and lots of toys, not that it will mater since they will just want what the other one has. good luck, you will be very busy
