Newman's A Clever Little Boxer
To remove this ad please Register
We have a bell at the back door that he rings when he has to pee and poo. He's pretty good with it, ringing the bell whenever he wants out side.
Nowww, he's ringing it just so i'll go downstairs. When i hear the bell, i come down the stairs. When he sees his "trick" worked, he causally walks over to his toy drawer!!
He thinks he's taught me well.

Newman: 'Where is my servant?' Guess I'd better use the call button.
Oh, there he is--'Jeeves, my squeeky ball please.'

LOL, too clever that's for sure. Ron I am curious though, why do you keep his toys inside the drawer? Mine have their toys in an open box or scattered around on the floor, so they can play with them when they feel like it.

Newman gets really obsessed with his toys and WON'T stop playing with them, even if he needs to pee/poo/drink/eat. He won't do anything else if he has a toy, and he snaps out of it immediately once the toy is back in the drawer! and if you try and hide it somewhere else he will not give up searching or barking for it until it is properly away. he is a little psycho boy about toys! even at my moms there has to be a 'toy drawer' so he will know when they are really 'away'.

Wow Annie, I hear you there. My last dog was like with that balls, if I put the ball somewhere and she couldn't reach it she would sit for hours just staring at it. If there was a ball inside the house she would sit by either me or Graham with the ball next to her and wait for us to throw it for her. We ended up leaving all the tennis balls in the car so they never came into the house at all. She was fine with other toys - she mostly destroyed them, but balls were her big thing.
My friend had her stay with her one weekend and she told me she was going to break her obsession with balls - she played with her for four hours inside the house non stop - my friend gave up in the end.......

That reminds me, I have to get Rex's ball out of the shed now that summer is over. He is like that with his too. You all have seen the videos I'm sure. He is obsessed with that big purple ball. He will push it around non stop. We don't let him play with in the summer because it is just too hot for him to run THAT much!

oh my! four hours! they are so ridiculously focused about some things! we have had to limit newmans playing in the summer too because he just WILL NOT stop. I've had to hose him down a few times because he got too hot. weird that their playing focus overrides their temperature control......
