Two dogs in Yorkville, Toronto have been zapped by energized metal plates on sidewalks resulting in the hydro company taking steps to make them safer.
This recent incident is the latest in a string of similar incidents that have resulted in 2
dogs being shocked and dying due to them stepping on the electric plates, embedded in the sidewalk.
Earlier this month, a dog in Baird Park stepped on a live electric wire sticking out from a hydro pole and was fatally shocked by electricity.
Late last year, in the same area of the park, a German Shepherd died after coming into contact with live electricity near the base of a light post.
Toronto Hydro is acting quickly to deal with this problem, allocating up to 6 million dollars to replace the city's metal electricity plates with fibreglass alternatives.
