Tie's getting up there (he'll 9 this month!!!!) and was wondering about stairs. I've always limited his stair use by putting the baby gate up during the day. I'm just wondering if stairs actually do hurt them or is the exercise good for them?

If they're like people, and he has no pre-existing condition or joint problem, I'd say they are probably good for him. Good weight bearing exercise and balance work.

is there a reason you think they aren't good for him? I don't think normal use would be anything to worry about at all!

Normal use of stairs is no problem . My old guy did fine on the stairs until the end at almost 13 . But by then he did walk up slower and not the running up the stairs like he used to .

In puppies I would limit the stair use only because of growing bones , joint and ligaments . but in an older healthy dog there should be no problem .
