Default Visit to the homeopath vet

Tuesday we went to the holistic, homeopath vet for a checkup. Buddy has a traditional vet where we live but we really wanted him checked out by a holistic vet. It was about an hours drive and Mike took the afternoon off so we could all go together with our little guy.

The visit was about 3 hours long and was the most through history and physical you can imagine. Besides the normal temp, heart, eyes, ears, etc. check, it included a chiropractic exam and an in-depth look at his health history including vaccines, illness, nutrition, behavior issues, personality styles. She covered everything!

The only vaccine Buddy has had was rabies and he had what we believed at the time to be a reaction to it - swollen joint in his legs and lameness. We did not tell her why we thought it occurred, but just laid it out along with other history and physical things including some that we believe are fear related like barking at strangers and peeing when excited/submissive. She told us that these behaviors are classic reactions to a rabies vaccine - you are essentially inducing the illness in the dog to a lesser degree - and the rear leg lameness is also something she has seen after a vaccine. Especially where there was no remedy given at the time to help offset the effects (obviously our traditional vet didn't do that).

Also noted during the exam were some white pustule type things he had grown about 3 weeks prior. One was on top of his head between his ears and two were on the tip of his left ear. We weren't worried about them, but did wonder why they grew and what they meant.

When were were done she gave us a remedy - 200C Sulpher - that we were to give one dropper of, one time. This wasn't for anything in particular but a general remedy based on her assessment of him as a whole. Remedy's work on an energetic level assisting the body to move toward balance and health. After we gave it she said for us to keep a journal for the next two weeks noting anything significant or different. In two weeks we have a phone consult where she decides to give another dose, something different, or nothing at all.

We gave it Wed morning and by Wed evening the bump on his head was 50% smaller and the larger one on his ear had gotten bigger and pointy looking. By Thursday the one on his head was about 95% gone and the large one 50% smaller. The little one on his ear was gone. I was shocked to tell you the truth.

Last night we had guests over. Everytime we have guests over Buddy is so wound up he must be in a Stay the whole time and he still pees! The last time this happened was only last week when our son & family were over. Last night we had friends over and Buddy was excited, but didn't need to be in a Stay the whole night. He calmed down, walked around greeting them and didn't pee!!!

What does this mean? I have no idea except I don't believe it's a co-incidence and I do believe it indicates a positive shift in energy. I'm so glad we spent the time and money to go see her. She will now work with us for anything but surgical emergencies and most issues can probably be phone consults. We'll evaluate at some point whether or not to get an exemption for any rabies booster.

I had read about homeopathy before but this was really my first encounter with a trained person. She's a traditionally trained vet, but then went on and studied under Dr. Pitcairn. I'm really impressed by the whole experience.

So glad everything went well! Did the vet say what the bumps were? I know lumps and bumps are pretty common in boxers.

Does your city allow rabies titers? I know ours just started doing it a few years ago. We will be forgoing further vaccination for my two, I'm not sure if I'll titer for piece of mind or not.

As for the peeing, a change of attitude and energy means EVERYTHING in dog training.

We didn't discuss what the bumps were. I don't believe Michigan allows titers for rabies so I'm not sure if it really matters what a city says. I don't think Ann Arbor can accept titers for rabies either so I'd double check that. I am in Ottawa county which she says will accept a waiver if she believes it's needed. This is not based on titers, but on a previous reaction or illness. She also said there is a study being done in Wisconsin right now about titers which may (eventually) allow for Michigan to accept titers.

A friend of ours breeds Great Danes and she's had several dog's titered for rabies (MSU doesn't do the titer though). They won't take the titer unless you have a letter from your vet saying you cannot vaccinate the animal for some health related reason. You just need to find a vet who will write a letter saying that the health consequence is great enough for the animal. Maybe you don't need the titer at all and just the letter? But in the circles we've been working in lately the general opinion seems to be that titers are a good thing, so maybe they just do then anyways.

Also, I meant county and not city in my pervious post.

WOW! Sally sounds like you've found a really great hol. vet...and it's wonderful that she was very thorough and spent so much time with you!! That's interesting about buddy's pee when greeting issues...Nikita would do the same, not as often, but it did stop at about 8 mths old.

I'm really amazed by it. I don't understand it, but the results are undeniable. The thing on his head is gone - just the missing hair where it was. One on his ear is gone, the other down about 80% in size. Behavior wise, he's been much calmer when people have been over and I only saw one episode of a little submissive peeing and the circumstances leading up to it were pretty extreme. We've had people over several times in the last week and he's just not peeing. I'm not saying it won't ever happen again, but it's very clear to Mike & I that something has changed in the last week, since we gave that one remedy, both physically and psychologically.

We have a phone consult follow up with her next week where she will evaluate and decide what, if anything, to do next. We really weren't expecting anything to be addressed with our visit last week. It was really just to establish a relationship and lay the ground work in case we did have a problem sometime. But from her perspective, we already had a problem - I guess she was right! lol!

Sally, that is AMAZING!! i'm going to do some more research into the 200C Sulpher...really curious now!! Memo also gets the little white pistules on his head...along the base of the ear...i haven't worried about them either. I'm so happy for you guys that Buddy is showing improvement this fast!! i'll keep fingers crossed that it continues!
