Just came back from the Vet with Rex and he gained 6 lbs. since Oct. He now weighs 61 lbs. I took a photo with me to show everyone what he eats. That plate of food photo that I had on here, everyone was amazed at how well he eats and all were asking me the details. The dr. was asking me more specifics on THK Preference, where to get it, how much it cost.

In case anyone missed it:

That's great! Nice chance to educate the office a little too. Good job!

I'm curious, looking at the pic, do you add calcium supplements or bone?

No.... I am under the impression that everything they need is in the THK Preference. I was adding bonemeal back when I was doing all the adding of vitamins myself before the THK.

So the THK has the bone & organ part of the 80/10/10 mix? I didn't realize that. I had trouble finding how much calcium is in, say, 1 cup of it. It says "balanced calcium: phosphorus ratios" and the Nutritional Info link doesn't give amounts either. Unless I'm missing something.

I had purchased a ton of it (4 boxes!) because I thought I was ordering ground without veggies and was going to add it to the mix. Then it came with the veggies, which Buddy loves, so I've just kept the THK for sometime in the future. Maybe I'll write them and ask about it.

Or call them.... they are very friendly and helpful there.
I now buy 4 boxes at a time.

Thats great news Doreen!
I can't even get the stuff here so I'm no expert on it but I believe they include the vitamins and minerals that would be found in organ and bone - they don't actually have organ and bone in it (well thats what I got out of their site when I've been on there checking it out - wish I could get it here it would be PERFECT for travelling).
Sally not sure if this is quite the info you were looking for, but I recalled seeing it on their site the last time I was snooping around there (you will need to scroll down a little)

We use THK on a semi regular basis. According to the package and from the percentages on the box, it looks like you should be able to just add in ground meat to make it complete. We, however, usually cut down on THK and use a meat that has bone and organ in it. I wouldn't worry about adding in organ if I were just feeding ground and THK since THK is fortified with vitamins.
