Coco's Vet Visit for her limp.

I just got back from the Vet for Coco's leg. He took many different xrays, but nothing is showing up, which is sort of good news. He moved it every which way possible, looked at it from all angles... nothing. He gave me 2 weeks anti- inflammatories and see if that helps her. Call him in a week with an update. After that, if not getting better, he could send the xray to a radiologist for another opinion, if he is missing something.

Hopefully it's a good thing that it's nothing too obvious. Have you ever thought about a doggie chiropractor. I would also think about a glucosamine/msm/condroitin supplement. I swear the are saving Boo from surgery.

I started giving the supplement to her about a week and half ago.... I hope they will kick in soon, though I know it will take time.

I read in Whole Dog Journal to give up to double the dose for the first month to see if it helps, then cut back. We did that with Boo. I barely notice the limp anymore.

Did the vet rule out an ACL ligament strain/partial tear? Don't know much about it but I've read dogs can have normal range of motion in the knee and still have ruptured the ligaments. The ACL test is called a "drawer test," which checks for hypermobility or laxity of the ACL ligament. You can call and ask if this was done.

Yes, he did check for ACL... I had asked at the visit.
He said the only way to check for torn ligaments or tendons would be MRI... and he said would be very expensive, so didn't want to rush into that.
He had also said about something might take 6 months to heal, but I forgot what he said that would be.

As you will see here, I took this video this morning with my phone..... she runs slightly slower than usual, but it doesn't keep her down! Of course the vet said to try to keep her off of it, but even he knew he was suggesting the impossible. I have to let her get some of her pent up energy out.. I try to limit this to only a few minutes as opposed to the hours that they could usually be out there.
