My boxer baby is going on 6. I got her when she was 9 weeks old. At the time, I worked at home and was able to be with her all day. I have recently taken a job outside the home and she now has to be crated 7 hours a day. To make matters worse she was diagnosed with epilepsy around age 1. She is on medication and the vet says her med levels are good and I can increase her if I felt it was necessary. She is on about 400 mg a day now. She is still having cluster seizures about every 5-6 weeks. The last one lasted 5 hours and a total of 9 seizures. I came home a few weeks ago to the aftermath of one. I really feel bad now about crating her all day knowing this is something that can happen at any time. I am considering turning her over to a rescue where they can place her with someone that can be available to her more than I can. What do you think? I hate to get rid of her but I dont want her to suffer because I dont have the time to give her the care she needs.

I know I would feel guilty if I had to leave mine in a crate for that many hours since mine are so used to me being home with them all day. At times you have to do what is best for dog although I know how heartbreaking that must be.

Do you have someone who may be able to doggie sit while you're at work or is there a doggie daycare that is able to take her with her condition?

Poor thing - 7 hours in a crate is wayyy tooo long. I'm no vet but if her last seizure lasted 5 hours I would say her medication needs adjusting now too.

I totally agree with Gizellle, try and see if you can find someone to care for her while you are at work, whether that be a private individual [maybe you could advertise for someone yourself?] or a more commercial set up, such as doggy day care.

Will your new job let you work anytime from home - or let you do flexi-time etc?
