Eating Sticks

what is the general rule for dogs eating sticks. Newman seems to rather enjoy turning sticks into toothpicks. I usually keep an eye on him, but i'm always worried he's going to get once stuck in his throat

Yeah Ruby has her stick chewing moments (they were especially bad when she was teething) but she doesn't really eat it she just leaves a slobbery chewed up mess for me . If you're really worried about it you could try providing him with something esle to chew on, maybe a couple of chicken necks for one of his meals, a RMB and a good teething chew toy.

All my boxers have been stick mulchers . They never really eat them justchew / break them up and spit them out . We have never had any issues from it , poop or any other .
I had been told way back that most boxers tend to do it .

Ron, I have a couple of dogs [not boxers though so don't know if that makes a difference?] that shred and eat sticks, and then cry when it comes out in their poop because the bits are hard, sharp and pointed. A few times I have had to pull bits of stick out of their bottoms for them because the bits have gotten stuck and they can't pass them out properly. It's probably ok if he is just shredding them, but I personally wouldn't let him eat them.

My 5 month old also loves to eat sticks (and anything else she can find). A few weeks ago she puked up a sock, a whole sock and just this morning she puked up a rock!!

Scout mulches sticks but doesn't swallow them. He also loves to eat grass like Peaches. He will look for the newer grass. I guess he is a grass snob

Wally was big on chewing sticks too. He still brings them in now and then, but I think it was mostly when he was teething like Ruby. Luckily mostly just shredded them but a few times we found 'odd' bits in his poop. Years ago our neighbors had a bassett hound who ate EVERYTHING. Socks, cupcake papers, anything she found. So it's definitely not just a boxer trait!
