Thanks again Sally for your help, do you know I didn't even look at the price of it, I was just so happy to actually find something - I spend hours searching and that was the only thing! Anyway, it didn't even occur to me to try a healthshop and human supplements so I went today and they had a very poor selection too, infact they only had one product of each item so there was no choice in the matter whatsoever, very disappointing. Anyhow, I bought the following 2 things - they aren't anywhere near as good as the things we have been looking at, but I will give them a try and see if they will help.
Digestive Enzymes: 100 Tablets - Digestive Aids / Probiotics - Solgar Digestive Aids Probiotics - Solgar
[hope it works - if you click "product info" it tells you what's in it]
I can't find the other product on that site [bit wierd as it's the same product make?]but it is a Multi-Acidophilus powder - it contains, in one half teaspoon [1.5g]
Maltodextrin,
powdered probiotic including Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5....333MILLION MICROORGANISATIONS [M/O]
Lactbacillus rhamnosus LGG 333MILLION M/O
Bifdobacterium lactis BB-12....333MILLION M/O
Citrus PECTIN
and SAND! [SILCON DIOXIDE - great I didn't notice THAT in the shop!]

Looks like you found a couple of good products, Stephanie. I hope they help. (Silcon Dioxide is often used as a drying agent and chosen because it is a relatively inert substance with very low toxicity.)

It's been 2 weeks today, there isn't much change in the wind department tbh, but his poops have firmed up a little - by 20 percent I'd say, so that's good news. It's early days yet, so we'll keep going with it and keep our fingers crossed for him.

Well, it's been nearly 2 months now, and I am delighted [and I mean really delighted!] to say that the wind has all but stopped thank goodness and thank you Sally so much for this suggestion. As I mentioned on another post his poops are still on the loose side but greatly improved to what they were like. So I was thinking Sally - he has half an enzyme tablet in the morning and evening with his meals and then the probiotics once a day - should I start weaning him off them? or would it be ok for him to stay on them for the rest of his life maybe. I'm just thinking long term use and the possibilitiles of him maybe developing immune issues/tolerance to them. Thanks again Sally.

You won't have any immune issues/tolerance to them since they are digestive enzymes and probiotics that his body makes/needs constantly. He just needed some help with supply since his body was so stressed and unbalanced. Many people - and their pets - use them daily, others short term when symptoms arise. So I'd say it's up to you.
I'm so glad he's doing better. Because the wind (as unpleasant as it was) was only a symptom of imbalance, this lets you know that his whole system is doing much better and healthier.

Thanks again Sally, I will keep him on them then especially as I am still experimenting with different foods at the minute. I'm kind of reaching the conclusion that this boy needs some carbs in his diet to bind him up abit. When he had his last diarrhoea spate - he seems to have them regularly - I fasted him and then gave him chicken and rice for a couple of days and his poops were really good. I have him on a really sensitive dog food at the moment that has both wheat and rice in it - I know these ingredients are not natural to a dogs diet but his poops are so much better if I add this to the better quality Orijen on a half-half basis. If I give him Orijen on it's own, his poops are just a messy blob and I don't want him eating just the sensitive stuff. I'll keep searching though - there are alot of good dog foods on the market nowadays - something out there has to suit him! Thanks again Sally, for all your help with this, Roddy sends you lots of licks too - I'm sure he must be feeling heaps better too.

I know some folks don't like any grains, but others, like Dr. Pitcairn, do not subscribe to that theory and believe that some cooked grains can be a good, cost-effective source of nutrients. So I wouldn't worry about giving him some, especially if his poop is better!
I wish I could give Roddy a hug! He looks like such a neat dog in your posts. He certainly is lucky to be staying with you and I'm sure he knows it!

We all know how bad Rex's poop was.... but after giving him the raw meat along with cooked rice and 1/2 a banana a day, he firmed up nicely... Oh and did you try The Honest Kitchen? That really solidified poop very well. My point being, that rice did not hurt Rex's poop.
