Well, hopefully [all fingers crossed] this will be the last time I need to update this thread. It has taken a long time but we have finally got Roddy on a 100% raw diet. It has taken us ages because we had to take a very slow approach with him - adding just one extra spoon of raw to his food each week. We had a bit of a set back a couple of weeks ago - I tried him with some raw chicken necks [his first bone-in meal - probably not the best thing to give him on reflection as they are on the small side] but the silly boy gulped them down, whilst gagging on them at the same time. It was horrible watching him and quite frightening to say the least. My last dog, dear Sherry was like Ruby, slow and easy with bones and I never had much concern. Roddy has no control and no idea, all he knows is that it is something good so better eat it fast. I spent the whole weekend worrying about him and picking up poops with bits of bones in it.
Anyway I can't watch him behaving like this with them, let alone spend time worrying about blockages etc, so he is on a ground-in bone mixture. He's happy, I'm happy. The reason I am updating this thread is to let you know too, that for the past month, I stopped giving him the probiotics and the digestive enzymes and he remains wind free. His poops are absolutely fantastic too. So there you go, what a journey!
